It's not easy to detect all of the signs of depression. It's even more difficult to know when to take a closer look. Seemingly light remarks about struggling can appear inconsequential. Observing a few instances of out-of-character behavior might not seem noteworthy. In fact, it is normal for an average person to struggle and act a bit out of character from time to time.
That said, the current mental health crisis is serious. We encourage everyone to err on the side of caution at this time. These are trying times. Being more analytical of the behavior of loved ones is a good way to help avoid a tragic outcome. None of us knows how to perfectly navigate the challenges. We are all just human beings trying to help other humans "be." But, knowing the signs and taking them seriously is one step in the right direction.
