Unconscious Bias: associations that are made between attributes and social categories - without conscious awareness. Often resulting in harmful social stereotypes.
One of the better results of 2020 was the surfacing of this concept in the minds of the American public. That said, being informed of it is not the same as committing to removing it from your way of thinking. It happens to you dozens of times a day, whether you notice it or not. Unconscious bias affects everyone. No group is exempt from it. In 2023, we all need to continue to work toward eradicating harmful stereotypes, and choose instead to see every human as a unique individual.
